English Lessons now offered with Kim Laursen!
Kim Laursen started riding at the age of 5, and grew up riding
up and down Mt. Diablo trails. Her formal English training
began at age 11 under Sarah Frakes. There she began showing on
the “A” and “B” hunter/jumper circuits in the short stirrup
hunter division. When she was 12 she started her training with
Charles Wilhelm, learning the importance of Foundation
Training in all disciplines, while learning to ride her 2 year
old Azteca mare. It was then that she developed her love of
handling, starting and working with all horses.
During her Junior years on the hunter/jumper circuit, she
trained under Sara Marchant with Manhattan Farms, as well as
gaining expertise from trainers such as Aimee Hanson, Horizons
East Show Stables, and Diane Yeager.
She has successfully competed in the Hunter, Equitation and
Jumper rings. Some achievements include:
- Reserve Champion Equitation Over Fences and on the Flat
- Champion Hunter Under Saddle and High Point Winner 2009
- Carolyn Day Equitation Challenge; high scores in Gymnastics
and Over fences phases
- Horse and Hound Medal Qualifier
- Numerous Champion and Reserve Champion 1.00m jumpers
- Reserve Champion 1.10m jumpers
Currently Kim is an assistant trainer for Charles Wilhelm, and
is attending Diablo Valley College with plans to receive her
AA degree in Small Business Management. She owns a 4 year old
Hanoverian gelding named “Gizmo,” who she plans to show in the
equitation and jumper rings in 2012. Her personal aspirations
are to compete at the Grand Prix level and bring horsemanship
into the competition ring. She believes giving people a strong
background in foundation training and equitation will help
build further success inside and outside the competitive ring,
and she incorporates that into her lesson program.
Kim gives lessons for riders of all ages, and works well with
children as well as being an excellent coach for adult riders
of all levels.
“Whether you are on the trail or in the show ring, we all want
to work in harmony with our horses, to ride correctly and
effectively, and a strong foundation of correct seat & body
aids will get us there.”
