Charles Wilhelm's Ultimate Five Day Colt-Starting Clinic
August 22-26, 2005

Limited to Just 5 Horses ~ Auditors by Advance Reservation Only

The Very Best Start You Can Offer Your Horse!
This unique venue is being offered for the first time by popular request.  Each year the Charles Wilhelm Training Center receives literally hundreds of inquiries from people all over the country asking how they should start their horse the right way. These are horse owners that really want to do it themselves, or at least be highly involved in the process, but simply do not have the education and background to feel comfortable and safe doing the training work on their own.

This exciting clinic is designed specifically for those people who want to fully immerse themselves in a highly intensive workshop targeted strictly for starting a horse under saddle.

Workshop Schedule
Monday through Friday  9 AM - 5 PM
Over the course of the five days, Charles will work with the participants and their horses to cover all the following topics and exercises in great depth....

  • Safety for both horse and owner

  • How to make any horse a calm, relaxed and willing student

  • Round pen reasoning: teaching respect and directional control through inside and outside turns

  • The go-forward cue

  • Ground manners: lunging, line work, leading and tying

  • Sacking out

  • Handling the feet and legs

  • Introduction to the saddle and bridle

  • Your horse’s first, second, and third ride

  • Directional control, backing up and moving the hips over

  • Preparation for clippers, shots, vet and farrier work

  • Building the right lifetime relationship with your horse

  • Solving common problems: cinchy, cold-backed, bucking, rearing, bolting

  • Creating a long-term, safe working environment for continued training after you both go home.

There will be plenty of opportunities to work with hands-on with your horse, and there will always be additional CW Training staff available to ensure you get help quickly if needed.  This clinic will fill and we suggest those interested reserve a spot promptly.  Please review our reservations & cancellation policy.

HORSES AND TACK:  Horses age two and up that have not been started for riding (or have only been lightly started) are welcome.  The intended discipline for the horse does not matter.  Any saddle type is acceptable.  We will be using rope halters, dressage and lunge whips, and twelve foot lead lines in addition to your riding own tack.  These may be purchased at the ranch if you do not bring your own. Fees include stabling and feed for your horse for the duration of the event. Helmets are required for riding exercises.
