Volume IV January 2004                                                  From Charles Wilhelm

Happy New Year

Another year come and gone.  Amazing isn't it?  I must say though, I can look back and say that 2003 was a truly wonderful year thanks to the many clients and friends we have been so lucky to have as a part of our lives.

already June!  Ann and I just returned from the Western States HorsExpo in Sacramento, and were in Missouri for a week -long clinic at Golden Hills Resort in mid-May.  I think somehow in all the excitement I missed Spring though.  Seems like it was rainy and cool for months, and now it's in the nineties.  Those wonderful Spring riding days with sunny seventies weather seem to have slipped past me.

As always we have been keeping busy with family, friends and our wonderful clients.  One of my goals for this year was to significantly redesign my website and I am very pleased to be able to invite you to to visit the new site and let me know what you think.  The Internet address remains the same:  http://www.cwtraining.com.  In addition to better clinic information, I am also launching a brand new service for virtual training that I am very excited about.  It's something I have wanted to do for quite a while, which leads me into telling you about another important goal.

I have spent quite a bit of time over the last year trying to focus my energies and attentions to where my greatest interests lie.  While I truly love working with client's horses at my ranch, and the challenges of bringing them through colt starting, performance issues or re-schooling, the work that truly gives me the greatest joy is training the owners themselves. To empower people to get the kind of results that trainers like myself are able to achieve; to teach people that with the right methods, patience and perseverance that they can have the relationship they want with their horse - well that work is the most rewarding of all.

But to be able to have the time needed to work with as many people as possible, means that I must shift my priorities a bit. Therefore I will be accepting less horses for training at the ranch in order that I can expand my availability to conduct more clinics and work with more apprentices and owners in the horsemanship educational programs we host at the ranch.  Additionally, I have greatly expanded the topic list of clinics I offer, and will be able to do more clinics at private facilities, both locally and nationally.  I hear so many times that people wish I could come to their facility as they cannot bring their horses to my ranch or to an Expo.  Well, now I will be able to do just that.  If you may be interested in having me run a clinic at your location - just call or email Karen Werth, our ranch manager.  She can also send you the current list of clinic topics.  And by the same token - we have expanded our one to three week horsemanship programs and made them much more flexible.  Karen can answer any questions about that as well: 510-886-9000 or cwtraining@comcast.net.

Other news....

Sugar Creek Custom Saddlery has just introduced a fantastic new CW trail saddle.  Weighing in at just twenty-five pounds, this saddle is beautifully constructed with a deep seat that will keep you in place throughout any terrain.  We will have pictures on the website in the next week or so.

Space is filling up quickly for the July Ultimate Horse Camp for Women.  If you may be interested, we recommend making a reservation soon.

We have recently added a Youth Horse Camp in August, and a brand new "Team Up with the Best" week long clinic with Charles and Donna Snyder-Smith in October.  See details below.

Tip of the Month....

As you spend time with your horse over the new few weeks, make sure that you are constantly trying to look at everything from his or her point of view.  We need to learn to communicate with them in their own language, to appreciate how they understand their surroundings and interactions.  It's our job to adjust to their point of view, just doesn't work the other way around.

As always, I invite you to contact me at the ranch if you have any questions or there is something I can help you with.

Warm regards to you!

Charles

If you would know of anyone that would like to be added to the email list to get " Ground Breaking News" each month, please have them write to us at cwtraining@comcast.net. You may also request to be removed from the mailing list at that same address.
