From Charles Wilhelm

Spring is nearly upon us and I thought it was about time to check in with everyone and see how you are doing! We have been keeping pretty busy on the home front ourselves. My wife Anne and I now have three dogs, the two Jack Russells plus a lab mix that we rescued last year. Between the dogs and all the horses, this place could be filmed for Americas' funniest pet videos on most days.
Speaking of which, I conducted a "babies" clinic at the ranch last month which was really fun. We had seven youngsters brought in for a half day of basic groundwork exercises, most of them were weanlings -- it was terrific. I realized again how important getting these little guys off to the right start is. Accordingly, I will be co-authoring an article on starting babies with the "mom" of a weanling for Ride! Magazine, in their May Foal issue. Ride! is a great magazine and I have been doing a monthly column with them on Solving Problems through Foundation Training. Between that, the monthly Q & A sessions in Riding Magazine, and also finishing up work on my first book to be published later this year.... well I guess you can call me a cowboy author. Now a cowboy poet -- definitely not!

Anne and I just returned from the Horse World Expos in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We were *lucky* enough to coincide our appearance in New Jersey with the massive snowstorm that hit the East Coast; it was a good reminder why we love living in California. Ah yes, the glamorous life of the clinician.... stuck in a hotel with virtually no food or service staff, as neither deliveries nor employees could get on the roads.

This will be the first of a short monthly newsletter I send out. It will include any updates from the ranch, quick training tips, jokes, a monthly contest, who knows what else you'll see here! I do know that I want to touch base with everyone regularly to see how you are doing - whether you have been a client at the ranch, attended a clinic, or have emailed us with questions, I would like to hear how you and your horse are faring. What's going well and what's been a challenge? Let me know. And to get that started... email us a short story (a couple of paragraphs) about the best day you ever had with a horse and why! All entries will be entered into a drawing for a 12 foot lead rope and headstall. Drawing will be held at the March 29 clinic. Winner definitely does NOT need to be present to win. We will ship the prizes to your address. Looking forward to hearing from you!

If you would know of anyone that would like to be added to the email list to get " Ground Breaking News" each month, please have them write to us at cwtraining@comcast.net. You may also request to be removed from the mailing list at that same address. Also coming soon... having a specific problem with your horse? I will be doing personal consultations via email though our website for a small fee.
