Meet Jaz Poco Salsa!

For those of you who may be starting a youngster, stay tuned to Ride! magazine and my website for a monthly training calendar with tips and exercises on working with babies.  I have a brand new yearling filly from Jaz Ranch in Oregon.  "Jaz" will be a long-term training project for me on how to use foundation training to do ultimate colt-starting.  I got Jaz last week and she had barely been handled, so I will be documenting on starting a baby from scratch. She has an amazing mind and I am very excited about working with her.

We have also learned that the my first book, Building Your Dream Horse, which is being published by Wiley Books from their Howell Equestrian division, will be released in February '05.  Co-authored with Allison Houston, the book is about 250 pages and is an comprehensive guide to my Ultimate Foundation Training program.  It covers all the primary training exercises we do here at the ranch and also provides an overview on understanding horses and horsemanship.  We are also in discussion with Wiley in hopes of producing a second book on colt-starting, for release in 2006.  This is Jaz when she was three months old.

Other news from the ranch, noted clinician and specialist in the bio-mechanics of riding, Donna Snyder-Smith has just moved her base of operations to our ranch.  Donna and I have been doing combined clinics over the last year and have found that my foundation training techniques and her riding instruction really mesh beautifully.  Donna and I will continue to offer clinics together and she is also offering private clinics and lessons as well.  We are all excited about working more closely with Donna as she is a truly wonderful horsewoman and professional.

Anne and I returned a couple of weeks ago from Ride the West in Spokane.  This is the third year of this Northwest horse expo, and I remain impressed with the quality of the show and work they do.  If you have not been, you should attend next year if you can.  It's a great forum for horse owners and lovers.  Additionally I just finished another appearance at UC Davis' Annual Horse Day Symposium.  Davis is one of the top veterinary teaching hospitals in the nation and once a year they hold a weekend educational event that is open to everyone. They cover nutrition, wellness\illness, training, breeding, hoofcare... you name it.  They always have a great line up of presenters and this year was another wonderful symposium.

And for the many people who have been crying out for the pull-back video... it's almost done!  Check on the website periodically over the next few weeks - you should see it available to order online shortly!  It's a terrific video, we got delayed in resolving some audio issues but production is complete and we expect inventory any time now.

Anyone looking for a nice horse?  We have not had any for sale for awhile, but currently have 5 horses at the ranch that are available.  Check out the Sale page for more information.

And I would like to again invite any of you that have a horse that I helped you train (either at the ranch or by attending a clinic or expo), please consider sending us a current photograph of you and your horse, with a short blurb (your name, horse's name and a short paragraph) about how you two are doing now.  We'd like to add a new section to the website with some real-life stories.  Please e-mail those to my website administrator at mybandwidth@yahoo.com.
